Lifetime Achievement Award-- Edward Bankhead

This award honors someone whose impact spans decades--a person who has consistently poured into our community with dedication, leadership, and service. Their legacy is woven into the very fabric of Springhill, and their example continues to inspire generations.

We honored Mr. Edward Bankhead—a man of character, commitment, and service—this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award for his extraordinary contributions to the city of Springhill.

Mr. Bankhead was raised in Cotton Valley, on the west bank of Bodcau, where the strong roots of faith and community were planted early. Raised in the Baptist church and educated at Carrie Martin High School, Edward grew up with values that would shape a lifetime of leadership and hard work.

He is the proud father of four daughters, and a lifelong entrepreneur whose journey is a true testament to resilience, integrity, and dedication. From his early days as a pulpwood contractor under Smith and Campbell, to serving in management at B&S for an astounding 35 years, Edward has always been a man who leads by example.

He didn’t stop there. For over a decade, he built homes, creating spaces where families could plant roots just as he had. And since 1981, he has owned and operated his own business—North-South Lawn Service—caring for the land and the beauty of our town with the same pride and attention he gives everything he touches.

But perhaps most impactful has been his service to this city—as a City Councilman for 36 years, and as Mayor Pro Tem. In every decision, every vote, and every conversation, Mr. Bankhead has kept the heart of Springhill in mind. He has worked not just for today, but for the generations to come.

And when asked about his long-standing residence here, his answer is simple and powerful: “There is no other place I would have rather lived.”

Edward Bankhead has not just lived in Springhill—he has built it, served it, and loved it. We honor him for that unwavering devotion.

For these reasons, we honor Mr. Edward Bankhead—a pillar of our community, and a true Springhill original—with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
