 D. C. Wimberly 

 

The late D. C. Wimberly was born in 1917.  He grew up near Ringgold, Louisiana.   He served in the Army 1942-1945.   He was captured in Luxenburg , November 1944 and was interned in Stalag XII and several other German Prisoner of War Camps.  The Russians liberated him  on April 22, 1945.  He escaped from the Russian on May 9, 1945.

He was awarded two Battle Stars, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, POW and other medals.  He was discharged December 12, 1945, after severing his country bravely.

Mr. Wimberly served as National Commander of American Ex-Prisoners of War in 1974.  He served in various offices on the national level, such as, Budget, Membership, Publicity and Judge Advocate.  He was still active in the organization at the time of his death.

He gave 35 years of his life as a teacher, coach, and principal of schools in Bienville and Webster Parish. 

We owe a great deal to D. C. and the many other POW's, as well as all our men who have ever served our country.
