Quality of Life

The Springhill area enjoys a diversified economy. It is a paradise for the outdoorsmen and recreation enthusiasts.  Our lakes, bayous, & forest areas are some of the best
anywhere.  Water sports enthusiasts find ample space for skiing, boating, and fishing on nearby lakes. Dorcheat Bayou, one of the state's Natural Scenic Waterways, is located here. Bodcaw Bayou is another Louisiana Scenic Waterway. Lake Erling is just north, in Arkansas.  Our many acres of trees provide the hunters an abundance of deer, turkey, squirrel, and even wild hogs.

Our climate is one of our major assets.  While definitely exhibiting four distinct seasons, it has an average annual temperature of a mild 65 degrees with an annual rainfall of 47 inches.

All of these make the Springhill area one of the best places in the country to spend your retirement years. Parks located around town offer swimming pools,  tennis courts, softball and baseball fields to provide recreational opportunities  for all ages,  beginning with T-ball for four and five year-olds.

Frank Anthony park , Springhill's newest park, offers full RV hookups  along  with an air-conditioned Community Activities Center, with fully-equipped kitchen and restrooms available for RVers and for community events such as school functions and family reunions. The Community Activities Center houses what we call the "Piney Woods Palace".

Organized Sports are important to families in the North West part of Webster Parish.  All of our North Webster schools are very much into sports.  Our basketball, tennis, and football teams get the support of all our people.   Bowling and golf are also available.  We have a large country club with a beautiful well kept 9 hole golf course.

We also have Habitat for Humanity, which does a great work in the community.

One of the largest outdoor arenas in Louisiana can be found in  Springhill.  It is the site of the annual RCA Rodeo, which is held the second weekend in August.  Cowboys and Cowgirls from across the nation , as well as locally, come to compete in a variety of events  on the finest rodeo stock on the circuit. a picture of the springhill library

The Willie Mack Memorial  Library offers excellent facilities for research and recreational reading. It is a part of the Webster parish Library System  through which one has access to inter-library loans and information from libraries across the state.  The patron also has access to the Internet as well as the many other services offered.

The Spring Theater  has  the largest movie screen in Louisiana with the exception of the IMAX at SciPort.

The Spring Theater ,which had been closed for 15 years, is now open with great movies for the entire family.  It is located in the historic district of downtown Springhill.  The theater shows first run movies seven days a week.  There is only one movie shown each night.  The movie begins at 7:30 p.m.

Admission prices will be $5 for adults, $4 for children three through eleven.  For our senior citizens, we have a special admission price of $2.50 on Mondays only.  We invite anyone age 50 or over to come and enjoy a movie with your friends.

The concession stand offers reasonably priced refreshments, including all your favorites, such as theater popcorn, candy and drinks.

In addition to a good movie and refreshments, you will meet some of the greatest people in the world.

                                                 Retirement and Relaxed Living

Springhill and the surrounding area is an excellent choice for retirement or a home with a relaxed atmosphere .   We are a quiet peace-loving town, with a very low crime rate.   You become almost family to the people of the town.   We  genuinely care for each other.   You can walk down the street and even people you don't know will smilean example of area homes and speak.  Everyone is always ready to offer you a cup of coffee and a piece of pie.  This is just "Southern Hospitality" at work.   Most of our people build their lives  around their family, friends, and church.

Real estate can be purchased at a price not found in most areas of the country.  Average prices for a home with vinyl siding is approximately $50,000 for a house with three bedrooms, two baths, and 1500 to 1600 square feet .  The same house with brick on the outside would be $65,000.

A brick home with 2000 to 2400 square feet would cost approximately $100,000 to $ 120,000.   We do not have a property tax for homes under  $75,000, and our city taxes are low.

The cost of building these home is far below the national average.  The area is a great place to raise your children or spend retirement.

You can find anything you need and be able to reach it in approximately five to ten minutes.   If this is not possible, you are within an hour of two large cities.
